Description:   The City of Tempe invites artists to submit qualifications to design enhancements for the Highline Canal Multi-use Path, a stretch of canal between Baseline Road and Knox Road. The Highline Canal project is meant to create a user friendly multi-use path for pedestrians and cyclists alike. With a newly designed a 10-foot wide concrete multi-use path, lighting, landscaping and public art, the Highline Canal is intended to provide an unique and comfortable way to travel through the City of Tempe. The project includes street crossing treatments and bicycle/pedestrian bridges across the canal as well as seating and shade.

The project is located along the Tempe portion of the Highline Canal and links directly to Chandler and the Town of Guadalupe for a distance of 3.5 miles. To learn more about this project and see a video of the Highline Canal:

Possible art opportunities include, but are not limited to, pathway treatments, shade structure embellishment and/or additions, the creation of landmarks throughout the trail, seating, and lighting. The design team is currently at 60% completion and expects to complete design in Fall of 2017. This is a fast track project with opportunities for public art to create an impact on the overall project.
