Closing Date Tuesday, July 17, 2018
Location Grapevine TX

The City of Grapevine seeks Statements of Qualifications from Professional Visual Artists for the project described below. The selected Artist will contract directly with Grapevine to successfully complete the full scope of the Project within the project budget and on schedule. Through the Public Art Program, Grapevine seeks to enrich the cultural and intellectual life of its City by building a collection of public art created by leading artists of our time.

This Request for Qualifications (RFQ) provides information on the scope of the project and information to aid in preparing responses to this RFQ. All inquiries regarding this Project and RFQ must be in writing and must be submitted to the Project Manager listed below in sufficient time to allow Grapevine to respond. Grapevine will evaluate the inquiries, determine whether an Addendum is required, and issue an appropriate response.
The City of Grapevine seeks to commission a professional artist(s) to create site-specific exterior sculpture(s) to be placed outside at the Oak Grove Softball Complex. The complex is currently under construction and scheduled to be complete by February 2019.

This project will add a fourth field to the Oak Grove Softball Complex, remove and replace the existing parking lot, along with upgrade the concession stand area and restroom facility to meet current ADA standards. Youth and adult softball along with kickball continue to grow in participation numbers and the existing facility and amenities have become outdated. The design intent will be to mirror the Oak Grove Ballfield Complex renovation from 2009.

Safety is imperative; durable, low-maintenance materials are recommended to withstand Texas intense weather conditions. Ideal submissions should be vertical and easily seen from a distance. Submitting artists should consider lighting and other elements that will draw attention to the sculpture at various times throughout the day. Water features are highly discouraged, but the selected artist may have an opportunity to collaborate with landscape architects for the project.

Among relevant concepts to consider are creativity in collaboration, research in many different disciplines, connecting people, human innovation, interactivity, and educational components. Artists should keep in mind that this is a state of the art, highly active, fun, Softball Complex for youth and adults.
