Texas Commission on the Arts

About the Program

Texas Original (TxO) was created by the Texas Commission on the Arts (TCA)to help preserve Texas’ unique arts and crafts heritage and was designed to achieve three primary goals:

Texas is home to an extraordinary number of talented craft artisans working in a wide variety of media.  The www.txoriginal.com web site provides an opportunity to purchase products hand-made by Texan artisans. Everything from pottery to jewelry to glass to fiber to wood to metal and more is available.

Texas Original also gives Texas’ artists an outlet for marketing their products, allowing them to support a career in their chosen discipline.  Artists included in the Texas Original program have been through a review process overseen by the Texas Commission on the Arts.  Only artisans and crafts people who meet the highest business, quality and artistic standards are granted the title of Texas Original. When you see the TxO brand, you know you are looking at a high-quality, authentic, original work by a Texas artist.

Artists interested in being selected for the Texas Original program should sign up for TCA’s electronic newsletter by clicking on “Subscribe” on the left hand side of the ArtsTexas page.

Opportunities related to the TxO program will be reported in the newsletter as well as in the “Texas Original News” area of this web site.
