The HeART of Resilience Exhibition
Stories of Strength and Healing After Breast Cancer

Presented by Flaunt Flat Revolution and hosted by the gallery at Art on Main.

This is a call for artists to submit works for The HeART of Resilience, an exhibition that visually narrates the transformative journey of breast cancer survivors as they reclaim their bodies and identities after surgery.

This exhibition seeks works (painting, drawing, printmaking, photography, sculpture and ceramics) that pay tribute to the bravery and determination required to make informed choices, redefine personal attractiveness, and embrace new chapters in life. Through this collective visual exploration, The HeART of Resilience exhibition seeks to create a compelling visual dialogue celebrating empowerment, healing, and the power of resilience.

We encourage young artists—students and emerging talents—to share their unique perspectives alongside seasoned creators, creating a vibrant and diverse tapestry of voices and stories.

We invite artists to artistically interpret and celebrate the diverse paths women and men take – opting for reconstructive surgery, choosing to stay flat, and seeking ways to feel confident in their bodies. Through this lens, we seek works that showcase a perspective that goes beyond physical appearance, focusing on self love and acceptance, personal strength and body positivity.

Whether you are a student excited to share fresh interpretations or an established artist with a visual story to share, your art can create a powerful visual dialogue to inspire viewers.

Artist Prompts:
The Power of Free Will: How can art visually tell stories of the power and freedom of making decisions about one’s own body after breast cancer? How can it capture the moment a woman or man reclaims their body and honors their surgical decision?

Reshaping Attractiveness: Explore how individuals challenge conventional standards and redefine attractiveness for themselves.

Journey of Transformation and Healing: Capture the evolution of strength and healing—emotional, physical, mental, spiritual—that comes from navigating life beyond breast cancer surgery.

Confidence and Self-Love: Depict the joy and courage in embracing one’s body, scars and all, as a source of pride and uniqueness. How do individuals embrace confidence and cultivate self-love, no matter their decision?

Symbols of Strength and Resilience: Optional use of marks, metaphors, symbols or imagery that represent the strength of individuals navigating their future and finding ways to thrive in a new normal.

The Stories of Strength and Healing After Breast Cancer Exhibition honors the diverse and courageous journeys of breast cancer survivors, recognizing that the power to seek choices—whether available or not—is deeply transformative.

By visually interpreting themes of strength, healing, and self-acceptance, artists are invited to celebrate resilience, personal empowerment, and the redefinition of attractiveness beyond physical appearance. Together, these works will create a powerful dialogue that uplifts all paths of survival, embracing confidence, body positivity, and the human spirit’s remarkable ability to thrive.

Entry Fee: $20 for two submissions and $5 for an additional submission. Entry fees are non-refundable.
