The Organization
Creative Arts Center of Dallas (CAC) is a nonprofit community arts organization and school of visual arts geared to working artists and students of all skill levels and experience. Operating for over 50 years, CAC has become one of the top adult art education destinations in North Texas. Its continued mission is to nurture a community where citizen artists discover, develop, and express their artistic vision.

Led by a Board of Directors, Creative Arts Center of Dallas has a long history of nurturing generations of Dallas area artists by providing an outstanding faculty of professional artists to ensure quality instruction in classes and workshops to beginning, emerging, and established artists. Classes and workshops are offered in ceramics, clay sculpture, drawing, glass, jewelry, mosaic, painting, printmaking, stone carving, welding, and other visual media. Instructors include well-known artists and art educators whose work is in public and private collections. CAC also maintains exhibition space to showcase faculty and student creations and to feature work from our outreach activities.

The Role
Reporting to the Board of Directors, the Executive Director provides strategic leadership, vision, and direction for CAC, focusing on day-to-day operational oversight, financial management, and community relationship building. Key responsibilities of the Executive Director include:
• Operational Oversight. Optimize CAC’s day-to-day operations and administration, demonstrating business acumen to deliver results, sustain the organization’s facilities and resources, and enable CAC to continue to fulfill its mission into the future.
• Financial Oversight. Develop an annual operating budget, implement and enforce sound financial practices, and ensure the organization’s financial health.
• People Management. Lead and mentor a small team of mission-driven professionals, taking accountability for coaching, performance management, and development.
• Program and Teaching Artist Development. Ensure CAC continues to grow and develop an outstanding faculty of diverse, professional artists capable of providing quality instruction in various visual arts media to increase student enrollment and support the growth of community programs and exhibitions.
• Board relations. Partner with the Board of Directors in the planning and execution of strategic initiatives that support the advancement and sustainability of CAC; arrange and participate in meetings of the Board and standing committees and maintain full knowledge of the organization’s by-laws.
• Community Outreach. Collaborate with local and regional leaders and community members to identify pathways for continued growth of CAC’s reach through strategic, innovative efforts and partnerships.
• Fundraising. Champion resource development to identify and maximize revenue streams and expand the organization’s base of philanthropic support.
You Will Bring:
• 5+ years of business, academic administration, or nonprofit administration experience with a demonstrated focus on operational and financial outcomes and results.
• Capability to balance the mission and vision of a community arts organization with the business needs of a healthy, sustainable organization.
• 3+ years of people leadership experience, including coaching, performance management, and staff development.
• Understanding of and passion for an arts entity’s role in the community.
• Proven ability to exercise sound judgment and integrity in complex situations.
• Track record of communication and influencing skills, including success in engaging diverse stakeholders and developing external alliances and partnerships.
• Experience working in an environment requiring flexibility, ability to navigate ambiguity, and capacity for rapid change.
• Demonstrated capabilities in building and sustaining community relationships with the ability to develop and implement fundraising strategies preferred.
• Experience reporting to, building, and supporting the work of a nonprofit Board of Directors preferred.
