FotoFest seeks self-motivated and dedicated individuals who are considering careers in the arts, arts education, and the nonprofit sector. We offer opportunities to gain hands-on experience, a chance to develop relationships with experienced professionals, an opportunity to make international contacts, and a behind-the-scenes look at our 2020 Biennial programming.

Internships are open to undergraduate and graduate college students, artists, and individuals interested in the arts, from the U.S. and other countries.

Interns will:
– Learn about careers in the arts
– Develop mentor relationships with experienced professionals
– Work on meaningful projects
– Share experiences within a tightly knit group
Each intern receives a stipend of $500 upon completion of required commitment—120 hours of work.

– Personal Essay – a one-page, typed, single-spaced essay telling us about yourself and why you want to be a FotoFest intern
– Resume – include work history, other internships, academic information (i.e. grade level, major, awards, and honors)
– 120 hours of work to receive full credit and/or stipend
– Knowledge of Microsoft Office programs is required for all internship positions
– Working knowledge of other computer programs (i.e. Photoshop, InDesign, web design and video editing programs) is a big plus
– Reliable transportation is required

January – April 2020
All departments will have positions available
Beginning January 2020
2-3 days per week before the Biennial
Full time for 2 weeks during the first weeks of the biennial, March 7 – 21, 2020

Because of the nature and size of the organization, interns may be expected to perform duties outside of the following descriptions. However, these descriptions should be considered as regular duties.

Exhibitions internship duties include logging and care of photos, research for upcoming exhibitions, and assisting in the installation of shows. Interns will interact extensively with curators and artists while learning hands on skills about the handling, preservation and presentation of photographs. Knowledge of Photoshop and InDesign are required. Intern should be agile and able to carry at least 50 pounds. Exhibition is looking for 3 interns to work on January – April. Apply now!!

Meeting Place Portfolio Review
The International Meeting Place, FotoFest’s Portfolio Review program, is the oldest, largest, and most international event of its kind in the USA. Interns working with the Meeting Place will get a very good sense of the extensive organization, planning, and administration that goes into bringing together hundreds of photographers and photography experts from all over the world for this 14-day event. Familiarity with Photoshop is a must. InDesign and video editing are a plus. If you take pride in your organization skills and ability to multi-task, this position is for you. The Meeting Place is looking for 2 or 3 interns to work on January – March. Apply now!!

The International Fine Print Auction
The Fine Print Auction is FotoFest’s largest fundraising event, it takes place on March 12, 2020. The Fine Print Auction features prints from contemporary U.S. and international artists. Applicants should have an interest in event coordination, and possess excellent organizational and people skills. Ability to assist in the careful handling of framed prints is required. Knowledge of how to operate Photoshop, InDesign and some web design experience is also required. The Fine Print Auction is looking for 2 interns to begin working as soon as possible. Apply now!!

Literacy Through Photography (LTP)
FotoFest’s year-round school and community learning program, Literacy Through Photography (LTP), uses photography to stimulate visual literacy, comprehension, writing, and analytical thinking. LTP promotes creative self-expression among students of a range of ages and abilities. The LTP Interns will be assisting the Advancement Director and the Programs Director by maintaining the social media presence of the program across various platforms to help ensure our audience is engaged and informed of upcoming programming. Intern will also assist in efforts to grow our social media presence and reach.

Interns will also assist with event production of Biennial related educational programming, and collating metrics from the 2019-20 school year. The intern will also assist with various preparation for culminating exhibition of student work FotoFinish, May 2020. This exhibition includes the photographic and written works of over 1000 student participants from LTP residencies over the year. The internship is a comprehensive look into non-profit education. Our goal is that interns complete the semester with a well-rounded skill set that will enable them to tackle a diverse set of projects.
