Information

Latinos in Heritage Conservation (LHC) has officially launched the nation’s first grant program dedicated exclusively to funding Latinx heritage and historic preservation projects. With $600,000 in initial funding available, this groundbreaking program marks a bold step toward recognizing and protecting the invaluable contributions of Latinx communities across the United States.

Grants will range from $5,000 to $100,000 per project and are made possible through the generous support of the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation in partnership with the Social Impact Fund.

What This Means:

The LHC Grant Program empowers grassroots, Latinx-focused nonprofit organizations and community groups to bring their visions to life—whether that’s restoring historic sites, developing educational programs, or strengthening organizational capacity.

This program is about more than funding; it’s about recognizing and investing in Latinx history as an essential part of the American story and addressing the disparity that has left less than 1% of designated historic sites reflecting Latinx heritage.

Special Focus on the Borderlands Region:

To launch the Grant Program, we are placing a special focus on the Borderlands region—Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, Utah, Nevada, and California–an area distinguished by its unique blend of Indigenous, Mexican, and American cultural influences. However, this opportunity is open to everyone across the continental U.S. and Puerto Rico.
