Art League Houston (ALH) seeks a Part-Time Communications Manager (remote) to actively generate and manage our online communications with our audiences. The Communications Manager will engage our existing audiences and new individuals and communities within Houston and beyond in our exhibition, community engagement, and education programs, as well as our fundraising events, to increase the visibility of ALH’s multifaceted endeavors.

The successful Communications Manager is an expert visual and discursive storyteller, who is passionate about sharing the work of Art League Houston and illuminating ALH’s accomplishments. They will implement creative story-telling and informational campaigns online and in print, and collaborate with all departments to generate substantial and compelling content about ALH’s work and its impact. They will be adept at assembling and analyzing program and support data, preparing storytelling and advertising strategies (when and as needed) and writing engaging creative copy, including press releases and ALH newsletters, of various lengths and styles. Strong candidates will display impressive self-motivation and autonomous organization, an eagerness to collaborate across different teams, and a creative engagement with both writing and visual media, including photography, videography, and graphic design. This part-time contract position reports to the Executive Director with an hourly wage of $24 and includes a 401K with a 3% match.

Duties of the Communications Manager
● Create and maintain an organization-wide calendar for marketing and communications to promote ALH’s exhibitions, community programs and events, and Art League School offerings.
● Develop creative messaging strategies to communicate, engage and grow ALH’s audience around its exhibition, community engagement and education programs, and fundraising events.
● Marketing Analytics: Keep track of ALH’s marketing analytics on a monthly and quarterly basis.
● Coordinate with program directors to generate new ideas for ALHs e-newsletters to keep our constituents engaged and attract new ones. Use ALH’s subscriber base of 10,000 + to get people excited about and engaged in ALH’s work through e-newsletter campaign development, writing, and image selection and production.
● Social Media: Creatively maintain and use ALH’s social media platforms as vital storytelling platforms to promote ALH’s work and programs, and to engage with other partner organizations.
● Stay current with social media changes and trends.
● Broaden ALH’s reach by promoting it as a platform for artists through strategic conversations and engagement with artists, nonprofits, and other entities.
● Work with Program Managers to complete the following:
o Regularly update ALH’s press list to include new publications and blogs targeting diverse audiences.
o Target local, national, and international publications to introduce ALH, solicit reviews of exhibitions, and highlight ALH’s presence.
o Develop unique PR opportunities, pitch ALH’s content, special interest stories, and interviews about or with ALH staff, artists, and constituents to local, national, and international programs and publications.
● Advertising: Manage Marketing & Advertising budget, and research digital and print advertising opportunities to increase participation in ALH’s diverse programs, including classes, workshops, exhibitions, and community programs
● Website Maintenance: The Communications Manager will be responsible for all website updates for all exhibitions and community content.
● Edit, caption and upload ALH videos such as artist talks to ALH’s YouTube channel, as needed
● Create exhibition promotional materials including postcards, banners, and vinyl.
● Create school promotional materials including graphics, postcards, and quarterly catalogs.

● Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Marketing, or related discipline preferred, or comparable work experience
● Bilingual or multilingual preferred, with desired fluency in Spanish
● Passion for and knowledge of the arts
● Impeccable communication skills, both written, verbal, and visual, with experience in writing, editing, and creating creative and compelling content for diverse audiences and platforms, including social media, digital spaces, and newsletters
● Strong interpersonal skills, and ability to effectively engage with team members of all levels and across departments
● Passion for promoting accessibility through technology
● Experience with video software (Final cut pro, Premier Pro, etc.)
● Experience with Creative & Graphic Design Applications (i.e. Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, etc.)
● High level of experience with social media platforms, including but not limited to Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter
● Well-organized with strong time management skills
● Ability to productively multitask and handle multiple priorities
● Ability to set and achieve goals
