Located in the heart of Central Texas, Big Medium is a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting artists and building community through the arts in Austin and across Texas. The Program Assistant will be responsible for assisting in day-to-day operations and management of the Big Medium Gallery and assisting the Curator/Director of Programming. This position will be responsible for planning, creating, scheduling, and posting content for various social media accounts and programs such as The LINE Residency, Exhibition Programming, and Events, among other items. Big Medium is launching a new gallery space in October, so the position will be hybrid between in person and working from home. The Program Assistant will work directly with and report to the Curator/Director of Programming.

Work with the Curator/Director of Programming to promote Big Medium’s programs, exhibition openings, and special events
Create engaging content for all major social media platforms to increase Big Medium’s brand awareness
Schedule content to be published on social media at ideal times
Assist with monitoring the social media channels and activities
Assist with managing the Big Medium’s social media content calendar
Assist with artist communications
Managing the gallery space, welcoming attendees, providing information about our programs
Providing support for special events
Other duties as assigned

20 – 30 hours per week
Generally Monday – Friday, 9 am – 5 pm to start, but the work schedule is flexible. Once the new gallery space is open, the program assistant will work from 11:30 am – 6:30 pm, Thursday – Saturday, with some additional hours throughout the week
Weekends and evenings for events as needed
Work remotely with at least one day in the office per week until new space opens
$22-$25/hour from the date of hire until mid-December, with the possibility of an extension

As a result of working as the Program Assistant, the applicant will have the opportunity to acquire and further develop their communication skills, time management, attention to detail, adaptability, and customer service skills.

Displays excellent written and oral communication skills
In-depth working knowledge of Facebook, Instagram, and Later or other scheduling platforms
Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
Basic knowledge of programs and services offered by Big Medium
Ability to prioritize and multitask in a fast-paced environment
Administrative tasks such as emailing, answering phone, making copies
