The Community Arts Program in Kerrville, Texas seeks to commission/purchase a permanent artwork, 3-D, sculpture &/or surface-based public artwork to be sited on the Schreiner University campus, near the Kerrville River Trail. The art should represent the cultures, people, heritage and/or landscapes of the area.
Artists may present artwork(s) within their current inventory provided there is no other work in that edition installed within a 100-mile radius of the installation site.
The public art installation will be selected through a Request for Proposals (RFP) process which includes two phases. The first phase is a Request for Qualifications (RFQ) from artists and/or creative teams. During the second phase, the top three candidates will be asked to submit full proposals and receive a $1,500 honorarium. All semifinalist’s artwork must be designed to be installed on a concrete slab site.

Budget: 30,000 + Schreiner University Visiting Artist Stipend

The artist will also be awarded a residency at Schreiner University with the Summerlin Visiting Artist Experience. The residency includes a stipend not to exceed $6,000, accommodations, meals, travel, access to studio space, library, and art equipment during the art installation period. There is a public lecture/discussion session for local artists and student development, a community demonstration, and a dedication event all included in the residency.

Project Background and Local Context:
Situated in Texas Hill Country, Kerrville is rooted in a deep history of the natural landscape along with a legacy intertwined with indigenous cultures, German and Mexican heritage, and a strong identity shaped by the goat and cattle ranching industry.

The vision is for a permanent large scale art installation should reflect your affection for and attention to place. Rural communities/residents will be living with the artwork for a long time, perhaps generations. Artists are encouraged to investigate.
