The Senior Accountant oversees general ledger management, account reconciliations, review of cash receipt processing, restricted asset releases, account receivable collection and monthly accounting cycle closing in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles.

• Perform all accounting operations for HGO and its subsidiary corporations (HGO Guild, HGO Endowment) up to and including the creation of monthly financial statements.
• Ensure that all general ledger accounts are reconciled to subsidiary records on a monthly basis.
• Primary responsibility for reconciliations of contributed revenue and investment activity.
• Prepare monthly closing general ledger entries.
• Support month-end and year-end close process.
• Analyze financial reports, forecasts and other data, as assigned.
• Identify errors and suggest ways to improve efficiency.
• In conjunction with Director of Finance, plan, assign and review work of Accounts Payable Administrator.
• Work with CFO and Director of Finance, in conjunction with external auditors, to prepare annual audit.
• Compile/provide financial data for grant reporting.
• Document business processes and accounting policies to maintain and strengthen internal controls.
• Assist with annual Opera America Survey and other financial surveys (IRS, etc).
• Work with other departments as necessary to facilitate a smooth and continuous flow of information.
• Other duties as assigned by Director of Finance

Accounting or Finance degree required. CPA is a plus. 6 years’ accounting experience required with a minimum of two years of supervisory experience. Non-profit experience and knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles, especially with respect to contributed revenue. Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills. Familiarity with Financial Edge and/or Tessitura software a plus.

The Senior Accountant should be a highly organized and motivated self-starter who can assess situations and determine urgency, in order to make a clear and timely workplan in the best interest of the organization. The ideal candidate will be both detail- and process-oriented, and able to communicate clearly to staff and managers. Experience collaborating and managing others.
