General Duties:
The Fredericksburg Theater Company (FTC) is searching for an innovative and inspirational Technical/Facilities Director to join our passionate community theatre team. FTC is a nonprofit theatre and home to 6 main stage productions, 1 main stage children’s musical, and 7 special events/artists performances such as concerts, comedy, and films. There also is the potential for rentals within the season as FTC’s schedule allows. FTC is a cherished cultural resource for Gillespie County and the region. Benefits include health insurance, bonus plan, and 2 one-week paid vacations. The position is salaried with compensation based on experience. Performance reviews are given annually with the potential for merit pay increases.

The Technical/Facilities Director is responsible for the technical operations of the theatre, including lighting, sound, set design, construction coordinating, and necessary maintenance of the theater, scene and costume shop, and all equipment contained within. They are the immediate supervisor of the Shop Foreman and will also supervise the custodial staff and production volunteers. The Technical/Facilities Director reports to the Executive Director.

Responsibilities:
• Operates, maintains and safeguards the technical assets of the theatre, including supervising the use of lighting, sound, communications equipment and the use and maintenance of stage facilities.
• Designs scenery and lights for a minimum of two main stage productions.
• Contracts sound, lighting, and/or set design team for each production, including rentals if not already provided by rental companies.
• Advises the lighting, sound, and/or set designers on the technical specifications, costs, and usage of technical equipment required for the individual show. Supervise the implementation of approved technical designs.
• Supervises all set construction and volunteer help. Delegates daily tasks to complete set and stage construction on time.
• Assists in training, scheduling, and assignment of technical crew for individual shows. During tech week and performances, supervises the crewmembers as well.
• Orients facility renters to safety, technical characteristics and other areas of facility operations.
• Monitors the condition of equipment including lighting, sound, and rigging equipment; arrange for the repair and replacement within budgetary constraints; facilitates preventative maintenance on equipment.
• Maintains inventory of all equipment and supplies.
• Assists with the preparation of production budgets; maintains inventory and orders specialized supplies.
• Attends tech week rehearsals and supervises and assists in the technical aspects of mounting the show. Shares the responsibility of attending all performances with the Stage Manager, in addition, to strike and work calls.
• Supervises all rigging.
• Maintains a safe, healthy and clean work/shop/theatre environment.
• Maintains MSDS sheets on all necessary products purchased for the theatre.
• Communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
• Lift objects up to 50 pounds using appropriate tools.
• Occasionally maintain irregular and extended working hours.
• Assists in set construction as needed.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements:
-Educational: Minimum Bachelor’s degree in Theatre
-Must have 2+ years’ experience in one or more of the following fields:
-Lighting Design
-Set Design
-Sound Design
-Preferred: 2+ years administrative experience
