Creative Action is a nationally-recognized youth arts education organization in Austin, Texas. As the largest provider of creative learning programs in Central Texas, we use the arts as a medium to inspire creativity, unlock potential, and transform the lives of students of all ages. We pride ourselves on building transformative relationships that expand individual connections across differences. Through interactive classroom performances, after school residencies, and community-based programs, our team of professional teaching artists inspire youth to be creative artists, courageous allies, critical thinkers, and confident leaders in their communities. Since Creative Action’s founding in 1997, we have reached more than 250,000 youth and adults, delivered more than 300,000 hours of arts enrichment programming, and employed more than 1,000 teens and local artists.

After nearly twenty years leading the organization, Creative Action’s current Executive Director is moving on to pursue new opportunities. The Board of Directors is now seeking its next Executive Director (ED) to lead this influential community-centered organization with a focus on long term growth, community engagement and success. Creative Action’s next ED will exemplify the organization’s mission, lead boldly and exhibit deep social justice attributes, inspire and encourage authentic communication at all levels of the organization. The ED will seek to collaborate and build impactful partnerships that elevate Creative Action’s work. This is a unique opportunity for a person who aspires to create change and will strive relentlessly to ensure Creative Action succeeds in its mission, and takes the organization on its next exciting chapter of growth.

Reporting to the Board of Directors, the Executive Director will drive Creative Action’s strategic vision and oversee the successful operation of the organization. The ED will position Creative Action for future growth and development by strengthening and expanding the organization’s visibility, fundraising, and programming.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Organizational Leadership

In collaboration with the Board and staff, refine and plan Creative Action’s strategic vision and oversee its implementation
Create a strong, inclusive, and supportive culture that engages, retains, and inspires a diverse community of staff, volunteers, and community partners
Collaborate with organizational leaders, staff, and community members to advance Creative Action’s commitment to racial and social justice, internally and externally
Oversee all day-to-day operations (including program, fundraising, marketing, communications, and internal team culture), with ultimate accountability for the success of the organization
Manage the organization’s finances efficiently, ensuring maximum resource utilization and maintaining a positive financial position
Establish administrative policies and procedures for all functions, as necessary
External Leadership and Fundraising

Serve as Creative Action’s primary external voice, enhancing the organization’s visibility, brand recognition, and credibility
Establish and maintain relationships with key partners; manage those relationships to strategically enhance Creative Action’s mission
Drive fundraising efforts, with a focus on diversifying revenue streams and increasing funding to support growth in reach and impact
Maintain an active and visible presence in the community and work closely with other organizations and stakeholders
Board Engagement

Act as primary liaison to the Board of Directors; facilitate Board and Committee meetings
Work closely with the Board of Directors to seek their involvement in organizational decisions, ensuring effective and timely communication to support informed decision-making
Leverage the board to increase the overall visibility of the organization and enhance fundraising efforts

Passion and enthusiasm for the mission of Creative Action, with the belief that the arts are a vehicle for social justice

10 or more years of nonprofit management experience, with a minimum of five years of experience in senior leadership positions within youth development and/or entrepreneurial organizations
Collaborative and inclusive leader, with a passionate commitment to issues of racial, gender, and economic justice
Demonstrated success leading an organization and managing a team through a period of growth and development
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to act as as inspiring and passionate ambassador for Creative Action’s work, representing the organization at key conferences and events, and gaining new partners and supporters
Strong strategic thinking and problem-solving skills, with an eye towards ensuring teams have the structure, systems, and tools needed to work efficiently and scale their impact
Track record of fundraising success in a nonprofit setting preferred
Exceptional relationship building skills, with a demonstrated ability to work well with people from a wide variety of backgrounds, and track record of building and strengthening strong local and national partnerships

The compensation range for the Executive Director role starts at $150,000, commensurate with the incoming leader’s experience and qualifications for the role. There are comprehensive benefits associated with the position.
