About Houston Grand Opera Community & Learning (C&L)
Houston Grand Opera Community & Learning initiatives have engaged with Houstons dynamic, diverse and multigenerational population since 2007. By providing authentic and enriching experiences through collaborative partnerships with schools, families, community organizations, and curious members of society, Community and Learning explores the intersection between the art of opera and the needs of the people HGO serves. Initiatives include developing new operatic works and conversations that resonate thematically with the Operas audiences and, each season, offering popular, accessible programs like the Student Performance Series, Opera to Go!, and Storybook Opera in over one hundred schools in Houston and throughout Texas.
The HGO Community & Learning Programs Coordinator I, as supervised by the Operations Manager, Community & Learning, provides administrative and operational support to the marketing, communications, philanthropy, and research and evaluation of HGO C&L initiatives. This is an excellent opportunity to collaborate with a dynamic, cross-departmental team and contribute to the data-based decision making necessary to develop, fund, and message educational and community programming for a large performing arts organization.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include, but are not limited to, the following:
-Working closely with the Operations Manager, Community & Learning to provides operational and administrative support for HGO Community & Learning initiatives which provide educational and community programming to diverse audiences in the areas of Children & Family Programming; School and Educator Engagement; New Works, Dramaturgy, and Patron Enrichment; Civic Engagement; and The Future of Opera.
-Works closely with HGO Philanthropy and Audiences teams to draft development, marketing, and communication copy related to C&L programs and initiatives.
-Collects and summarizes qualitative and quantitative data and feedback related to C&L programs and initiatives for HGO Business Intelligence
-Develops draft copy, summaries, and bullet points on C&L for company-wide needs.
-Advises Audiences staff of edits and updates to C&L pages on the HGO website.
-Supports the Director of Community & Learning on special projects as time permits.
-Researches best practices and trends in the field and collectively to support Community & Learning practices and initiatives.
-Serves as a contact and staff for community members who wish to engage with HGO Community & Learning initiatives.
-Works on- and off-site Community & Learning events as needed.
A bachelors degree or equivalent professional experience, as well as 2-3 years of office administrative experience is preferred. Interest in arts management, marketing and development, education, community engagement, or performing arts is a plus. Experience or background as a performing artist is not required. Must be able to work some evenings and weekends as required with a reliable means of transportation. Proficiency with Microsoft and Outlook is preferred. Knowledge of ArtsVision or Tessitura is a plus, but not required. Candidates who are fluent in one or more of Houstons most spoken languages will be given priority consideration.
