Ballet Austin

Founded in 1956, Ballet Austin has been under the capable leadership of Artistic Director and choreographer Stephen Mills for 25 years. The company's repertoire is grounded in classical ballet and defined by a focus on innovation and the incubation of new work. Ballet Austin makes its performance home in Austin and extends its reach through regional, national, and international touring engagements. The company has performed at the Joyce Theater in New York; the Kennedy Center in Washington, DC; and in festivals, choreographic competitions, and on tour in Canada, France, Italy, Slovenia, Israel, and China. Ballet Austin's main company tours both full-length and mixed repertory programs. Full-length work includes Stephen Mills' celebrated Light / The Holocaust and Humanity Project and Hamlet. Mixed repertory programs include works by Mr. Mills, George Balanchine, and other internationally-recognized choreographers. Ballet Austin TWO tours family-focused original story ballets like Peter and the Wolf, original, culturally-specific ballets for youth like Maria and the Mouse Deer and Donde Van Las Mariposas, and mixed-repertoire productions featuring contemporary and classical dance works. Ballet Austin's touring programs also include school performances with accompanying curricula and on-campus kinesthetic-learning workshops and residencies for elementary students.
