The City of Cedar Park opened its new award-winning library in the Fall of 2024 as the anchor to the City’s future mixed-use development, the Bell District. In conjunction with the library, the City opened a unique play structure featuring a 23-ft-tall Mockingbird, Belle, that is surrounded by Bell Park, which features approximately 4,000 feet of walking trails. The City is seeking to create an engaging scavenger-hunt exhibit around this location that plays off the bird theme of the Belle play structure by featuring 8 original sculptures that will be “friends of Belle,” the mockingbird. Belle’s friends will include birds native to the Texas Hill Country and will be strategically positioned around the Library for visitors to find (see Appendix A of Call for Art Document to view the site and approximate selected locations of the sculptures). Sculpture materials should be powder-coated steel. Sculptures should reflect the approximate real-life sizes of each selected bird and must be within 10-14 inches of each bird’s actual size. In no event should a sculpture exceed 3.5 ft. in height or width. All designs must include mechanisms to securely attach the bottom of the sculptures to their platforms. Platforms will largely be made of concrete, but the City is open to exploring platforms such as trees for some sculptures to increase the variety of locations where birds are found. Sculptures should be engaging for all ages and should be of the 8 birds identified in the Call for Art Proposal document. The total project budget is $40,000 – $50,000. Proposals are due by 5 p.m. on December 31, 2026. For more details, see the Call for Art Proposal document.
