ARCOS Dance
ARCOS experiments with dance and everyday technologies to reimagine how we relate to each other. Performances layer dancing bodies and moving images livestreamed from smartphones, invite tactile interaction between dancers and audience guided by earbuds, and encourage participants to contribute to the performance using their own devices. ARCOS' internationally award-winning hybrid art is accessible, relevant, and engaging to a broad range of audiences, and recognized for its "kaleidoscopic artistry" (Austin American-Statesman) that is "fierce and weird and wonderful" (Austin Chronicle) and "thinks squarely outside the box" (Scotsman). ARCOS practices creative multiplicity, presenting throughout Texas, nationally, and abroad in public venues from art spaces and festivals to libraries and community centers, from studio theaters to alternative and outdoor venues. Available touring presentations range from solo to ensemble (1–7 performers), including the ongoing modular Ether series, newly developed pieces, site-specific works, and original commissions tailored to the communities where they are offered. ARCOS' open-level interdisciplinary workshops in movement and media arts complement its broadly accessible and participatory performances. Investigating how our contemporary technologies shape our lives, ARCOS' programs are rehearsals for the endurance and ingenuity we all need in an increasingly complex world.
