Description
‘Drumming is easy!’ is what Mr. David says after leading over 200 third graders on a rhythmical journey to discover for themselves that everyone has rhythm, a unique sound, and can play together as one big group. Through his company Rhythm Path, David Cox has facilitated thousands of interactive drumming circles since 2008. For the ‘Day of Drumming’ program, Rhythm Path provides a drum for every student to play and most schools use their regular enrichment schedule to allow one whole grade at a time to drum. It really is a day of drumming! David uses his skills and experience as a drum circle facilitator to help students make real human connection. Students learn the sounds and rhythms of the drum through echo patterns and ‘If you can say it, then you can play it.’ With some added shakers and bells, the rhythms quickly turn into a musical song. In addition to schools, David has programs for libraries, workshops, and various community events. David says, ‘Every drum circle is different. The moment someone hits the drum the music begins. As a facilitator, you are helping participants in the drum circle create and connect while beating a drum!’ Photo: David Cox.
