Double Vision Jazz Ensemble

52866769

Double Vision Jazz Ensemble is a contemporary jazz quartet co-led by composers and improvisers Hank Hehmsoth (piano) and John Mills (saxophone/flute). The ensemble presents engaging performances that blend original compositions with selections from the modern jazz canon, drawing on the music of composers such as Wayne Shorter, Herbie Hancock, Chick Corea, John Coltrane, and new works by Mills and Hehmsoth. Programs combine sophisticated contemporary jazz with brief spoken introductions that connect audiences to jazz history, composition, and the creative process. Interdisciplinary programs may include poetry or visual art, curated by the ensemble in collaboration with presenters to suit venue and audience needs. Double Vision performs primarily as a quartet, with flexible formats available for trio or small-ensemble presentations. The group has appeared at SXSW, FOX 7 Good Day Austin, the Supple Music Series, Parker Jazz Club, Elephant Room, the AJS Georgetown concerts, and in residencies and workshops at colleges, museums, and community venues across Texas. Educational offerings include jazz history and storytelling concerts, improvisation and composition workshops, interdisciplinary Art and Sound programs, and multi-day residencies serving students and community audiences. Double Vision is committed to presenting jazz as a living tradition—creative, accessible, and connecting to audiences through performance, education, and collaboration. Photo by Khang T Le.
