Description
Elana James is an award-winning violinist, vocalist, composer and educator as well as co-founder/owner of Austin-based hot jazz and western swing trio Hot Club of Cowtown (HCCT). For more than a quarter century, since 1997, as a member of the Hot Club of Cowtown and on her own, Elana has toured the world playing fiddle, singing, and bringing the joy of Texas roots music to venues from Amarillo to Azerbaijan. She has toured and recorded with HCCT, Bob Dylan (only dedicated female instrumentalist in his touring band since 1970), Willie Nelson, Merle Haggard, and Johnny Gimble. Named Ameripolitan Female Musician of 2015, Elana is a member of the Texas Western Swing Hall of Fame and performs Texas roots music, traditional fiddle tunes, American songbook standards, and her own compositions as a soloist, duo and up to a full band which can include a drummer or the original HCCT acoustic trio lineup. She’s been a proud member of the TCA Texas Touring Roster for most of the past two decades and has enjoyed traveling throughout the state spreading her joy of fiddle music at festivals, concerts and in workshops for all ages in all kinds of settings.
