Grupo Fantasma

Grupo Fantasma is widely praised as one of the most important independent acts in the Latin genre, forging one of the most distinctive musical voices to emerge from the United States in the 21st century. They earned their first GRAMMY Award nomination in 2008 for Sonidos Gold and won a GRAMMY in 2011 for their self-produced release El Existential, hailed by The Wall Street Journal as "Latin music both new and traditional…vibrant fusions that transcend easy classification." A pillar of Austin’s music community, the band has won over a decade of consecutive Austin Music Awards, totaling 13 wins, and has been inducted into the Austin, Texas Music Hall of Fame. Renowned for their explosive live performances, NPR has called the band "seamless whenever and wherever they’re on stage." Their extensive international touring includes major festivals and venues such as Bonnaroo, Austin City Limits, WOMAD, WOMEX, the North Sea Jazz Festival, London's O2 Arena, and the Kennedy Center. Beyond their own recordings, Grupo Fantasma has been an in-demand collaborator, including an extended collaboration with Prince, and has appeared on Austin City Limits three times. Entering their 25th year, the group is writing and recording a new album slated for release in 2026. Photo by Grupo Fantasma.
