Description
Andee Kinzy takes Shakespeare plays, mashes them up, mixes them with different artistic disciplines, and spits them back out to forge a fresh connection to the dusty old verses with a contemporary twist. She collaborates with participants and teachers/program directors to cultivate a love for language, enhance critical thinking, ignite creative confidence, and fuel a sense of achievement. She works with groups of all ages in school settings, community centers, afterschool, and theater programs. Andee offers three TEKS-aligned in-person touring programs: 1) ImprovEd Shakespeare’s Texas Hamlet – a five-hour hands-on residency program for all ages. Participants learn about Shakespeare, filmmaking, and performance skills while creating content for the state-wide web series; 2) Shakespeare Minutes – bite-sized early literacy/ESL workshops for K-8th graders; and 3) Shakespeare Pigeon Theatre – a workshop that combines literature with digital literacy. K-8th students are introduced to Shakespeare in a fun and unique manner using live pigeons as actors and smartphone filmmaking. Andee is an award-winning writer/producer/director, working in both narrative and documentary film; she founded a short film festival for girls and nonbinary youth; served on the board for women in film organizations; and has led Shakespeare workshops for hundreds of students around the world.
