Juan Longoria Jr. y Conteño
Juan Longoria Jr. is a renowned conjunto accordionist and educator with over 30 years of experience performing Texas-Mexican regional music. He won first place at Texas Folklife's Big Squeeze Accordion Competition in 2007 and was featured in the 2008 documentary The Big Squeeze. Since becoming director of Los Fresnos High School's Conjunto Halcon in 2012, he has grown the program to serve about 100 students annually and earned widespread media recognition and numerous state competition awards. Longoria also works with Texas Folklife to support young musicians. He was named a 2024 Taproot Fellow and selected to represent the United States at the 2025 World Expo in Osaka, Japan.
