Kam Franklin
Kam Franklin is an interdisciplinary artist best known as the powerhouse singer and songwriter of Gulf Coast soul band The Suffers. Franklin is also a writer, filmmaker, actress, producer, curator, and entrepreneur. She contributed to the GRAMMY Award-nominated regional roots album "The King of Zydeco." Her solo album, funded via Kickstarter, is complete and releasing this year. It is co-produced with Margo Price and guided by her production mentor Jim Eno, with support from Project Traction. Her short film "Byrd and Shepard" examines the 1998 killings of James Byrd, Jr. and Matthew Shepard, reflecting on collective responsibility in the face of hate. Since joining The Suffers in 2011, Franklin has performed on Letterman, Colbert, Kimmel, NPR's Tiny Desk, and most recently on ACL TV. She spent most of 2025 touring with Jimmie Vaughn, Bobby Rush, and John Primer as a part of Antone's 50th All-Stars, and she has collaborated with Chaka Khan, Brandi Carlile, Allison Russell, Jon Batiste, Bun-B, and La Mafia.
