Loop38
Loop38 is a Houston-based new music ensemble dedicated to building community around engaging, culturally relevant musical experiences. Named after Houston's 38-mile freeway ("the loop"), the ensemble specializes in contemporary classical music for chamber and large ensemble, creating distinctive aural experiences that push stylistic boundaries, elevate underrepresented voices, and foster meaningful collaborations with composers and artists across disciplines. Since its debut in 2016, Loop38 has presented works by local composers, emerging voices, and internationally recognized artists in venues across Texas. Touring programs are adaptable to a wide range of settings and include Longleaf, an evening-length multimedia work by Ben Morris tracing the history of the longleaf pine tree, as well as curated chamber programs exploring themes such as music and mathematics and musical traditions from across the Americas. A fluid ensemble ranging from a duo to a full 30-piece band, Loop38 works closely with presenters to tailor programs to their venues and audiences. In addition to performances, the ensemble offers college and university residencies (including master classes and composer readings), school workshops, and interactive community concerts.
