Mariachi Las Alteñas

When you think of mariachi, you may imagine the deep, powerful sound of a man's voice, but Mariachi Las Altenas performs in a different key. Celebrating 24 years of music and performance, this all-female mariachi ensemble is making waves across the United States. Their mission is to achieve excellence as musicians and performers while raising the standard for women in mariachi music. Under the leadership of founder and director Valerie Vargas and musical director Angela Campos, Mariachi Las Altenas is composed of 14 accomplished female musicians and vocalists. The ensemble includes eight violinists, three trumpeters, a guitarronista, vihuelista, and guitarist, creating their iconic and respected mariachi sound. Known for their musical diversity, the group appeals to audiences of all generations. Beyond their musicianship, Las Altenas captivate with dynamic stage presence, rich vocal harmonies, and vibrant trajes de charro. Their philosophy goes beyond singing, they interpret each song's meaning and connect deeply with their audience. Named after Los Altos de Jalisco, the birthplace of mariachi, Las Altenas proudly share their Mexican heritage.
