Description

Montopolis is an indie chamber music group that performs the works of composer Justin Sherburn. Their music combines rock, folk, and electronic compositions into modern classical arrangements to create ‘stunning and transcendent’ (Austin Chronicle) concerts. Their programs combine live music with film and interactive storytelling. The group tours nationally with original live scores to silent films and presents concerts that highlight Texas history and culture at performing arts centers and museums across the state. Their multimedia concerts are themed around Big Bend National Park, Enchanted Rock State Natural Area, and the Texas coast. They perform live scores to the silent films Man with a Movie Camera, L’Inferno, The Return of Draw Egan, Orochi: The Serpent, and Buster Keaton’s The Scarecrow. They also perform a live score to the iconic children’s film Le Ballon Rouge (The Red Balloon). ‘A night of beautiful chamber music, but with electric guitar and the twang of pedal steel giving a Texas kick to the keys and strings,’ –Texas Monthly. ‘A multimedia love letter to the Texas coast, with voices and images from the Gulf set to an original score,’ –NPR, Texas Standard. ‘Your summer blockbuster has arrived,’ –Austin Chronicle.
