Russell Joe Thompson
West Texas singer-songwriter Russell Joe Thompson is a shot of honky-tonk followed by a 90s grunge chaser. Just off the waters of Lake Arrowhead, Russell Joe grew up with a guitar in one hand and a fishing pole in the other. At the age of thirteen, he stepped into the world of songwriting and soon found himself performing original music in an alternative rock band throughout his hometown. What began as a teenage passion project in the early 2000s grew into a fifteen-year musical career spanning Texas and New York City. Russell Joe has been a finalist in the Blue Light Live Singer-Songwriter Competition in 2019, 2021, and 2025; a featured performer at the Lubbock Live Festival from 2022 through 2024; and a competitor in the South Plains College Singer-Songwriter Competition in 2024 and 2025, earning runner-up in 2025. He released his debut album, Between Teeth, in 2023 with Amusement Park Recording Studio and performed the album in full during a Lubbock Listening Room showcase. Russell Joe regularly performs across West Texas and New Mexico, delivering poetic, moody originals and 90s-inspired covers. Photo by Therese Barrett Fine Art Photography.
