Description

Established in May 2014 as a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization, Quenedit Dance Theatre was founded by Artistic Directors Catalina Garza and Ernesto Quenedit. The company debuted with its premier performance, The Nutcracker Ballet, in December 2014, a tradition that continues annually. By 2019, Quenedit Dance Theatre expanded its offerings, introducing an annual spring season that featured the San Antonio Dance Festival, a global event attracting dancers from around the world. In October 2022, a decision was made to officially adopt the name San Antonio Dance as a ‘Doing Business As’ (DBA) alias for Quenedit Dance Theatre. Despite the change in name, the company remains dedicated to extending its outreach to other cities and participating in various events throughout San Antonio, TX. San Antonio Dance performs a diverse range of dance works encompassing timeless classics such as The Nutcracker Ballet, The Fairy Doll, and The Pharaoh’s Daughter. Performances extend beyond traditional boundaries, featuring musical theater pieces and contemporary dance works by various renowned choreographers. Committed to both artistic excellence and education, the San Antonio Dance Company presents engaging school performances featuring excerpts from The Nutcracker Ballet, as well as an enlightening educational program titled ‘Welcome to Planet Dance.’ Photo by Anne Oettel Photography.
