Description
Emmy Perez, 2020 Texas Poet Laureate, is the author of the poetry collections With the River on Our Face, Solstice, and the forthcoming Paper america: New and Selected Poems. Her work also appears in anthologies such as Other Musics: New Latina Poetry, Ghost Fishing: An Eco-Justice Poetry Anthology, and a forthcoming Anthology/Handbook for Writing Past the Checkpoints. She has received poetry fellowships from the National Endowment for the Arts, the Academy of American Poets, United States Artists, and CantoMundo. A graduate of Columbia University and the University of Southern California, Perez has been a member of the Macondo Writers Workshop for socially engaged writers since 2008. Currently, she is a professor at the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley where she also serves as chair of the Department of Creative Writing. Photo: Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi.
