The Western Flyers
Dubbed "The Biggest Little Band in the Land," powerhouse Western swing trio the Western Flyers serve up an irresistibly hot, unmistakably Texas-style sound popularized by Bob Wills in the 1940s with an electrifying energy all their own. Featuring an all-star lineup led by archtop guitar slinger Joey McKenzie, two-time National Champion fiddler Ridge Roberts, and bassist Matthew Mefford, the trio also can perform with guest 'frequent flyer' GRAMMY Award telecaster master Redd Volkaert (Merle Haggard band fame.) As US State Department Cultural Exchange Alumni, the trio performs their Texas flavored music coast to coast and internationally. Appearances at the World's Fair Dubai, Library of Congress, and even with a ukulele slingin' Warren Buffett! Performances are tailored for a family audience, rowdy dancehall, theater, community event or festival stage. In addition, eight Flyers arrangements have been scored for full symphony orchestra-- past appearances include the Reno Philharmonic, Fort Worth Symphony and Dallas Symphony Orchestra. Delivering a blend of western swing, vintage country, swing classics and electrifyin' fiddle tunes, the Ameripolitan Western Swing Group of the Year is guaranteed to have even the shyest of wallflowers tappin' their toes or swingin' on the dance floor.
