Trio Los Vigilantes

Trio Los Vigilantes is dedicated to the romantic song traditions of Latin America, particularly the bolero. Based in Austin, Texas, they present bilingually and sing primarily in Spanish, with select repertoire in English and Brazilian Portuguese. This allows them to remain culturally grounded while engaging a wide range of audiences. Recognized for their balance of tradition and innovation, they honor giants of the genre such as Trio Los Panchos without treating historical precedent as a boundary. They support their vocals with a distinctive instrumental approach: the requintista switches to trumpet for some songs, and the cellist plays bass lines while simultaneously providing percussion on the body of the instrument, allowing a compact lineup to produce a broad, layered sound. They have performed extensively across Texas and have appeared as featured artists at the Havana Jazz Festival in Cuba. Expanded presentations with string quartet accompaniment are available, scalable to larger sections and adaptable to a wide range of venues. They have also served as artists-in-residence and guest lecturers at the University of Texas Butler School of Music.
